About The-Tilt

Our work-field: specific, colliding urban-environments. Our intention: to convert them into “chapels” of re-encounter, observation and acceptance, specifically in the conflicting joints between nature, city and cultural differences. Our medium: Wind and moving trees. Our tools: Sensors, sound architecture and reactive sonic objects.

The-Tilt Group was founded in Berlin, Germany in 2005. We exist as a legal association (The Tilt e.V.) since 2008. Our projects are based on private and public funding trough commissions, partnerships and commercial sponsoring.

Our sonic objects, sound architecture and technological solutions are site-specific: Based on the same technological and artistic approaches, each installation looks different, sounds different, has a different impact to the audience and may imply different artistic and functional approaches.

  The Tilt Group is focused in sound-installations based on movement of living trees suited with sensors. We work also in concert-oriented improvised music involving computers, live-electronics, sensors and percussion instruments.

• Carlos Sandoval
  

  Carlos Sandoval (b. 1956, Mexico City) is a composer, musician and sound artist. For over ten years now, he works with sensor-gloves used as a computer-based musical instrument. As a composer, he has left behind ideas of predetermination and control in favor of the collaboration with musicians and contact with the audience. He founded "The Tilt Group" in 2005, a project between the borders of a global musical instrument, complex, "high-energy" systems and trees with sensors. He founded also the "Interaktion Festival" in Berlin, in 2006.

• Oori Shalev
  

  Oori Shalev (Israel, 1979). Musician and technological artist, combines sensitive improvisation with digital machinery. His work include interdisciplinary projects and sound-installations. Drummer of both Eastern and Western percussions, he has played with countless groups and musicians of different styles and countries. Lately, performs mostly his solo and duo concerts. Shalev develops hardware and software for real-time sonic, visual and real-world interaction. Expert in new-technologies, he founded and lead a team of engineers in various large-scale projects for government-agencies and enterprise corporations. founder of the-tilt and Interaktion Festival.
