Internet: real-time communication

Our installations implement a tree-to-tree communication protocol and create a virtual forest between trees locally, within a city,  or worldwide. These data streams are also used in our concerts and lectures.

We use OSC over UDP protocol in conjunction with Oscgroups (by Ross Bencina) and oscGroups-router (custom java servlet) to penetrate routers and firewalls. For simpler static setups (such as concerts), we use Hamachi. The bandwidth requirements are very low and can be used over dial-up connections and mobile connections (for example, in Baumberauschen used a cellular connection, thanks to the supported of Mobicent). When high-bandwidth is available, we stream the audio data (icecast), making it available for the public on-line. We use Remote Control software to get full access to the installation's computer to maintain and update it remotely.
